The Dead Sailor AKA The frame formerly known as the FTW. FTW can be quite the provocative acronym. It could stand for an plethora of things and the choice is yours what that thing will be. For us, in the case of our dirt jumper frame, it stands for Frank The Welder. We collaborated with Frank to whip up a batch of US Made aluminum dirt jumper frames and what we have here is the outcome.
Each frame comes with a set of downtube decals! We have not put them on incase you want to paint the frame. All of the available colors are pictured to the left. PLEASE LET US KNOW IN THE "NOTES" SECTION OF YOUR ORDER WHICH COLOR DIE CUTS YOU WANT! BLACK, YELLOW, TEAL, PINK OR WHITE.
We also have 4 Manitou Circus forks to sell with 4 of the frames. Two Expert and Two Comps, once they're gone, they're gone, but for now you have the option to grab the frame, fork, and a Cane Creek Forty headset in one convenient kit. We will press the headset in and throw the crown race on the fork for you prior to shipping.
Build Notes:
The FTW DJ uses a 26" wheel and has a max tire clearance of ~2.3".
Max Chainring Size is 30t
The head tube diameter is 44mm top and bottom so really there are a few different headset and steerer options when it comes to your fork setup. Typically you will end up with a tapered 1 1/8" Upper/ 1.5" Lower steerer. When shopping for a headset that "SHIC" would look like this- ZS44/28.6 EC44/40. If you are on more of a budget you may get a fork with a straight 1 1/8" steerer in which case the SHIC will look something like this- ZS44/28.6 EC44/30.
Designed to take any DJ fork between 100-160mm, just depends on what your preference is for slackness and travel.
Comes without paint, just bare aluminum. Aluminum resists corrosion and can easily be kept raw and maintained as such with no issues. You could alternatively get it powder coated, take it to your local paint shop, or get artsy fartsy and spray paint it yourself which I think is the most fun option!
