If there is one guaranteed way to shorten a leather saddle's life span, it's riding on it a bunch when it is wet. A saddle cover is a must have in my opinion if you're a leather saddle enthusiast that wants to ride in wet conditions. I mean, I guess you can just plastic bag it, but thats not exactly the longest lasting eco-friendly solution. They can also be helpful if you find you sweat into your saddle a lot. You can still get all of the leather hammock goodness without having to worry about sweating through a saddle every summer.
These Blue Lug Saddle Covers have been sewn with an elastic band around the opening to fit snug over a Brooks B17. That being said I've found they work great with my Berthoud Aspin and Galibier's. The Lug says they wont work with a Brooks B33, I assume that is because of the crazy spring setup on those. They come in a few different colors if you're wanting to match your style or just go black to keep it subdued.
